Tyre tips:
- Regularly check your tyres pressures against the bike manufacturers recommended pressure. Sometimes you may want to vary the pressures, if you are doing a track day on your sportsbike for example. But if you’re not sure ask one of our tyre technicians for advice to suit your bike and riding conditions.
- Not sure what all those numbers are listed on the sidewall of your tyre? They are the size markings and help us identify the tyre to suit your bike. So say you have a tyre listed as 120/70-17: the “120” is the width of the tyre in millimetres, the “70” is the “aspect ratio” or height of the tyre as a percentage of the width, and the “17” refers the wheel rim diameter in inches. There are also other letter and number codes used to specify the speed rating etc. Confused by the mix of metric and imperial measurements? Don’t worry, our tyre guys will make sense of it all for you.
- If you get a puncture in your tyre there may be some options to repair it depending on whether it’s a tubed or tubeless tyre. Give us a call to find out. Our accessories departments also stock tyre repair kits to help you out when you are on the road.
One thing we can’t stress enough is to take it easy on the road when you’ve had new tyres fitted. New tyres have a “wax” on them which helps the tyre release from the mould after the manufacturing process but doesn’t help them grip to the road. Running in tyres may take 150 kilometres or more so take it easy braking, turning or accelerating.
