Over 130 riders took advantage of the chance to test ride their favorite dirtbike at the Dandenong Motorcycle Club’s magnificent motocross track at Wonthaggi on 3rd October. In an industry first, Peter Stevens provided a fleet of mostly 2011 models from 5 manufacturers – KTM, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. There were two objectives – to give experienced riders the chance to ride competing models back to back on the track and to give newcomers to the sport the chance to find out how much fun any sort of dirtbike can be. Peter Stevens Ringwood branch ran its first LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme) demo day on Saturday 10th June with 13 models from Suzuki, Kawasaki, Hyosung and Vespa available for evaluation. Experienced riders were also welcome and a number of fully licenced riders were keen to try the 650cc mid-size LAMS machines which make such brilliant commuter bikes.

But this was a day was designed specifically for riders who had just obtained their Leaner’s Permits and some had never ridden on the road before. So the Peter Stevens staff carefully devised a test route around Ringwood that avoided all the ugly traffic snarls but was still interesting to ride.  After completing the 15km ride, the guests enjoyed a sausage sizzle and were presented with giveaways from Swann Insurance

and Hyosung Motorcycles.

The day ran very smoothly, there were no mishaps at all and the rider training organizations (mainly Honda Australia rider Training and Stay Upright) are to be congratulated for providing new riders with the practical safety and bike handling skills that can make motorcycling such a great pleasure.

Peter Stevens Morphett Vale branch and their guests participated in the second KTM Dirt Day for 2010 run on a terrific private venue at Callington near Murray Bridge, 100km east of Adelaide on Saturday 26th June.  Over 100 riders turned up on the day and were provided with 3 bikes of their choice from the KTM range of MX and enduro models.

The terrain is based on loamy sand which stood up well to the frequent short showers that continued throughout the day but there was too much fun to be had for anyone to notice the changeable weather.

As expected, the new 2011 250 & 350 SX-F models attracted the most interest but there was still healthy interest in the 200 & 300EXC enduro models as there were plenty of older riders present who were more interested in trailriding than racing.. (more…)
