Triumph turns back the clock!

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

100 Years ago, Villa Parma at Hepburn Springs was host to the first group of Triumphs imported into Australia and purely by coincidence the Dealer Conference and New Tiger 800 Launch was held in the exact same location (it wasn’t until after the venue was booked and confirmed that it was made known to Triumph Australia.) Spooky Hey?

The photo above right was taken all those years ago to document their momentous journey. (It took those guys a day and a half to get from Melbourne on their primitive machines.) Below right is the image of Triumph Australia staff in the same spot 100 years later. These days it only takes about an hour and a half to do the same trip.

Representatives from all Dealers Nationwide attended the Conference in order to see and test ride the New Tigers for the first time. Peppers Retreat hosted the event and on the first night we welcomed everyone including Darrell Taylor Triumph UK’s Product Planner who came over to present the new models. The next morning after a quick breakfast, dealer s were divided into groups; some for test r ides and some for information sessions.

The test riders were also divided into separate groups, some did the off-road course to experience the remarkable handling of both the Tiger 800 and the Tiger XC and as usual the Victorian weather obliged by throwing four seasons in one day at us, which made for some really interesting riding conditions. For all others that had missed out on previous ride days it was an opportunity to get onto the new Speed Triple, America, Speedmaster and Thunderbird Storm for a nice twisty ride out to Newstead.

Service tips to prep your bike for Winter

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Autumn is here and many people prefer not to ride through winter. If you are about to park your bike or PWC in the shed for a few months then there are a few precautions you should take:

  • Change the engine oil to prevent the by-products of combustion from damaging your engine over winter.
  • Inflate your tyres to higher than normal pressure. About another 10 – 15psi higher is a good figure to go for. This will help keep your tyres nice and round during the months of sitting stationary.
  • Fill your tank full of fuel. This will help eliminate air from the tank which reduces the likelihood of rust occurring in the tank and also helps prevent the fuel going stale. Draining fuel out of the carby’s is a good idea too.
  • Attaching a Battery Tender to your battery to keep it charged is a great way of prolonging the life of your battery.
  • Cover your bike with a “proper” bike cover. Don’t use a cloth or tarp because cloth absorbs moisture which then sits against your bodywork and tarps hold moisture in. Both not ideal. We have bike covers available for purchase on our website.

For Personal Watercraft they require extra attention to prevent corrosion both inside and out.

  • It’s a great idea to get a pre-winter service completed by our workshops.
  • Remove the engine covers and keep them off over winter to prevent condensation.
  • To look after the engine internals we recommend “fogging” the engine. We offer kits to suit most models that allows a small amount of engine oil to be squirted into the intake manifold which then provides a protective coating over the internals of the combustion chamber.
  • Pump up the tyres on your trailer too. About another 10 – 15psi is all it takes.

If you follow these steps, come spring time you’ll be able to pull your ride from the garage and fire it up safe in the knowledge that you’ve done your best to look after it even when you’re not riding.
